CLI Reference

debug

Validate sqlload.toml and test every connection.

sqlload debug [--no-connection]

sqlload debug checks the configuration file, then connects to every target and source:

$ sqlload debug
ok config 2 connections, 1 targets, 1 sources
ok target local DuckDB v2.0.0
ok source app postgres@postgres, PostgreSQL 17.11 (Debian 17.11-1.pgdg13+2)
Option Meaning
--no-connection Only validate the configuration; connect to nothing.

An invalid file prints each problem with its fix, and exits 1:

$ sqlload debug --no-connection
error: invalid project:
- connection wh: load_method is required: how should data get into Snowflake? Fix: add one of these to [connections.wh]:
load_method = { type = "external_stage", url = "s3://...", storage_integration = "..." } (fastest)
load_method = { type = "internal_user_stage" } (no setup)

An environment variable a ${ENV:NAME} refers to must be set:

$ sqlload debug
error: environment variable PGPASSWORD is not set
